Wordplay: Like Try Write One Sestina?

Dear Reader,

In the spirit of collaboration, back-and-forth, and vice-versa, we’re looking for a fantastic first verse to a gentle sestina.  Each line has to end with one of the key words we’ve chosen.  To play, write a 6-line stanza based on the following rules and post below.  The winning piece will be featured here on Dec 1st.  Check back then for a chance at the next verse.  And have fun!!

The Sestina: A Metaphorical MaestromGame Rules

  • No strict meter
  • 6 lines per stanza
  • Each line has to end with one of our 6 key words (no repeats, but you can pick the order

In the end, our collaborative sestina will consist of:

  • 6 stanzas of 6 lines each
  • each line will end with one of the 6 words as follows:
    1 2 3 4 5 6
    6 1 5 2 4 3
    3 6 4 1 2 5
    5 3 2 6 1 4
    4 5 1 3 6 2
    2 4 6 5 3 1
  • and then a last stanza of three lines that has 2 key words per line.

  1. So… it’s like throwing your keywords into a rinse cycle.

    1. …or a metaphorical maelstrom.
